It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

I REMEMBER READING A BOOK about being a godly woman that a dear friend had recommended. Some of it was useful, but as I continued to read, I found pressure mounting in my heart and tension pounding in my mind. The pinnacle came when the author said a sign of godliness was if a woman organized the inside of her dressers. The implication was that if a woman was orderly in the way she kept the insides of her drawers, then her character would probably also be in order, and thus she would be godly! Which Scripture defines this rule? I have searched and searched the Bible and have yet to find that one.

I spend a lot of time straightening my house and attempting to keep a peaceful, orderly environment that soothes and blesses my family. However, I am a passionate, philosophical, artistic person. I am very relational but love to have time to think, read, write, and drink lots and lots of tea and coffee. It would probably never even dawn on me to use my rare spare time to straighten out the inside of my drawers. I would be too busy planning how I was going to change the world or be deep in conversation and counseling with someone.

I don’t have to feel guilty for not being good at everything. God gave gifts through His Holy Spirit so that the whole body of Christ could accomplish His purposes. We are free, not subject to a yoke of slavery.
