Mom Heart Moments #358

Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.

Luke 1:28

OH, HOW I PRAY THAT THESE WORDS express how God feels about me! Does God see me as the kind of woman He could have chosen to mother the Most High God? By what means did she find favor?

Mary lived a humdrum life in a tiny, obscure village. Wheat was ground, bread dough kneaded on wooden tables, crumbs swept from the floor, siblings lovingly tended, the Shema recited every day over shared family meals. And yet, while she lived her life quietly, God noticed her. He saw her, and she found favor and pleased His heart.

God always sees, even when no one else is noticing.

Being the mother of Jesus would require a tenacious, steady, engaged faith. As His mother, her life would be in danger. Jesus would be pursued by a crazed king, and at every point people would cast doubt on her irregular, fantastic story. Satan wanted to prevent Jesus from becoming Savior, and Mary was to be His protector —a shelter from danger, a nurturer of His soul, a provider of truth, a teacher and trainer, a strength in storms. All this she would be asked to be for God’s Son, the Baby entrusted into her hands.

Her life would be filled with stress, pressure, rejection, fear, loneliness, and questions. And yet, God called her favored. He looked for one who would serve Him willingly, readily, at the moment of His impossible request, one who would respond in utter submission.

Those who consider themselves servants live to accomplish the will of their master. Is that my heart —to obey, willingly, whatever He would ask?

Is obedience your response to God? Even if it means sacrificing plans you hold dear? Even if it means being misunderstood? Rejected? Inconvenienced? Even if it requires great courage? Today, ask God to show you the responses of your heart.
