Mom Heart Moments #330
Mom Heart Moments #330
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
HOW DO WE EXPERIENCE God’s gracious heart? His grace flows from channels He created us to experience, but we must make time to experience His provision.
God intends for us to stop and rest. Contrary to all the commercials for this and that product made to help you keep going despite your cold, your exhaustion, or your depression, the truth is that God understands and wants us to sometimes take a break from all the activity happening around us. The Hebrews were given a law about setting aside one day a week for rest; they were forbidden to do work of any kind. Jesus taught that the law had been made for man, so that we might experience rest.
In our home, we decided to be very intentional about making every Sunday after church a special day of relaxation and fun: a breakfast feast, coffee, and community. We have a delectable treat for teatime. We enjoy board games, watching a mystery series, time with friends at a local café, glorious naps, and lively conversations where nothing serious or stressful is allowed! Resting from worry and strife and work helps us meet Mondays with renewed strength.
I think sometimes we stay busy because we are insecure. The voices in our heads tell us we are supposed to do all that our friends are doing, even if it leaves us in a frenzy. We have developed the idea that if we stop, if we don’t meet the needs of everyone around us, every second of the day, if we don’t answer the phone, if we don’t take that position at church, and . . . and . . . and —the world will stop on its axis, and somehow, we will be disappointing God.
His Word tells us something different.
How are you doing in the rest department? Make plans to have an especially enjoyable, soul-renewing Sabbath this week!
