Mom Heart Moments #203

Mom Heart Moments #203

At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.

Matthew 25:1-4, NIV

SOME OF THE VIRGINS IN THIS parable were called wise, and some were called foolish. Why?

Because they had oil, which of course was because they had planned ahead for their priorities. They didn’t let anything distract them from what was truly pressing, truly needful. The wise virgins took the time to put oil in their lamps —to be ready to meet the bridegroom.

What does it mean for us to be ready to meet God, to see Him face to face? And how does that play itself out in the warp and woof of our home life? There are times we definitely get distracted by dirty rooms, meals to prepare, and oh yes, definitely laundry! But do these things add oil into our souls? Likely not.

Focusing on the Savior who is the Bridegroom, the One who died on the cross and rose again, will definitely fill our souls and guide us in wisdom as we plan our days. All of our busyness will be in vain if it is not in preparation to see Him, to celebrate Him in our homes, to ready our children to place Him as their highest priority, as we await that wonderful day when He will come back to the earth. God wants us to be ready and anticipating His coming.

Take some time today to evaluate your life in light of this wonderful little story. Make sure you have the oil you need for your lamp, so you, too, will be wise.
