Mom Heart Moments #169

Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Colossians 3:17

THERE’S ONE THING CHILDREN want that we seldom consider: a happy mama. Happiness is not always a feeling, but a choice that comes from a heart that desires to please God. Happiness is an attitude that says, “This is the day the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

How to develop this attitude little by little is another thing altogether. These are some things I have done to cultivate happiness in my home which you might consider:

  • Fix your eyes on Jesus and talk to Him before you even step out of bed.
  • Greet your children or husband with a blessing when you first see them. Kiss your husband in front of your children —this makes them feel happy and secure. Take the time to tell him good-bye before he goes to work.
  • Say things like . . . “I am the most blessed mama in the world to have you as my little boy.” “Good morning, sunshine. I am happy to see you this morning!”
  • Put on music at different points all day.
  • Light candles a lot because they can make you feel civilized.
  • Institute an afternoon teatime.
  • Place things in your life that give you happiness or a sense of fun. Think flowers, walks at sunset, back rubs, sitting on the deck and watching the pines sway in the wind, etc.
  • Practice being thankful every day —take time to look at the antics and into the eyes of your children and thank God that they are with you now.

Today, put some of these ideas into practice. And thank God when you see flowers, stars, color, sunsets, all the things He made every day for us to enjoy. May your days be happy and bright!
