Mom Heart Moments #153
Mom Heart Moments #153
Behold, He who forms mountains and creates the wind and declares to man what are His thoughts, He who makes dawn into darkness and treads on the high places of the earth, the LORD God of hosts is His name.
SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, when I have walked out in nature, God has spoken to my heart. Gazing up at a myriad of sparkling stars on a wind-blown mountaintop; sitting on the golf course in the early evening, staring transfixed at a pink and purple sunset; watching a swirling snowstorm creep into my valley like an ocean tide sweeping into a cove; wondering at the way a mountain lake climbs the walls of a faraway castle in the midst of a thunderstorm; standing amid thousands of dancing bluebonnets in an abandoned farm field —these memories and more are treasured as those in which I’ve felt God’s presence. They call to my yearning heart, declaring, “There is an Artist, a deeply caring, personal Designer behind all of this vast beauty.”
And so I became a walker, trekking miles and miles along mountain roads in Colorado, seashores on Prince Edward Island, city streets in Vienna, rivers and fields in Poland, all over the world, always finding new places to appreciate beauty and fellowship with its Creator. I learned that when fussing was inevitable and moods were tense, I could take my wee, precious ones out for a tromp in nature, where our ruffled souls would be soothed.
Even in the midst of my full days, I seek to walk or sit on my porch or find some way to bring beauty, nature, and peace into my home. It soothes my soul, supports creative and intelligent thought, and feeds and nurtures the life of my family.
