Mom Heart Moments #148

The LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth.”

Exodus 34:6

OUR CULTURE IS FORMULA DRIVEN and impatient. We want to know what to do, how to do it, and when we can expect results so we can move on to the next issue. Surrounded by false teachings that offer “five steps to make your child obey,” no wonder so many moms are tired and stressed and feel they have failed when their less-than-perfect children continue to act like children! Some children are out of control because they’ve been treated as objects of discipline and punishment instead of unique children with gender, personality, and maturity differences.

For many years, I have pondered Scripture regarding the ways God parents the Jews, as well as noticing how He parents me. Our heavenly Father is loving, gracious, and the Creator of beauty. His timetable for my life seems to be slower than I would plan if I were in charge. He doesn’t seem to mind at all letting me suffer through circumstances, but instead He encourages me to hold fast, obey, stay strong, and wait for things rather than getting what I want immediately.

As I look at how Jesus worked with His disciples, I see He was patient with them and put up with their personality differences. He often observed that they didn’t understand, and He allowed them to fail.

Aren’t you thankful God loves you enough to stick with you, gently pointing out areas of your life that need work and allowing you ample opportunities to grow in those areas? I know I am!

With this kind of a patient, loving, accepting Father, I have no other choice but to be like Him as a parent to my children.

What qualities of God listed in today’s verse from Exodus stand out to you most? Ask Him to make you more like Him in those areas.
