Magnificent Prayer #52

Magnificent Prayer #52

But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13

Prayer doesn’t consist in sweet feelings, nor in an excited imagination, nor in an enlightened intellect. All these are external gifts from His hand, in the absence of which love may exist even more purely. Without these things, our soul may attach itself immediately and solely to God, instead of to His gifts.

FRANÇOIS FÉNELON

Pray About It: If we arise from our time of prayer unchanged in our feelings, does that mean God wasn’t present or that we were unsuccessful in our prayers? No! The measurement of prayer isn’t in our feelings, our imagination, or our intellect. All these may be present, yet if love is lacking, we profit nothing.

Today, look solely to God as you pray. Don’t worry about your fickle feelings.

He prays well who is so absorbed with God that he does not know he is praying.
