The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of his words fall to the ground.

Prayer is no magic transformation of words into heavenly language just because we close our eyes. Words are not prayer because we utter them on our knees, nor because we say them in the pulpit, nor because they are breathed within the confines of a church…
We can use words without prayer, and we can pray without using words. We can also pray when words are used. But there is a language of the Spirit beyond words—groanings that cannot be articulated, that defy language, that are above language, that are beyond language, that are the yearnings of the heart of God committed to those who seek to know His will and to care for a lost world and feeble Church.

Pray About It: Never pray words that “fall to the ground” before reaching God’s ears. If necessary, let your heart speak, and your mouth remain shut. Be sensitive to God. You will know when words are the language of the spirit and when silence or the groanings of a yearning heart are appropriate. Today, consider if silence might speak more loudly to God than words.
Prayer is something deeper than words. It is present in the soul before it has been formulated in words. And it abides in the soul after the last words of prayer have passed over our lips.
