Magnificent Prayer #358

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10

Brethren, we must fight for the prayer time, we must have time to pray. If we wait until we have some leisure moments to pray, we will never have the chance to pray. We should set apart some definite time for prayer. “Those who have no set time for prayer,” warns Andrew Murray, “do not pray.” For this reason, we need to watch that we may get time to pray. We must also use prayer to protect this prayer time from being snatched away through the wiles of the devil.

WATCHMAN NEE

Pray About It: For nearly one year now, we have been reading about prayer and then praying. But is it any easier now to take time to pray? I hope so. But I know that the enemy will always make the case for less prayer. His excuses fit our natural minds. If you still have trouble finding time, know that you’re not alone. We all struggle for time to pray. But we must do it because of the joy and the strength it yields.

Prayer must have priority. British author and historian Thomas Carlyle was brought up on a farm subject to seasonal flooding. A watchman was sent to warn the farmers when the water was rising so they could prepare for the onrushing flood. On one occasion, the watchman came to warn the Carlyles during their family worship time. Carlyle’s father refused to hear a word until prayer was ended, and convinced the young messenger to kneel with the family as they prayed. When their worship was finished, then they arose and prepared for the flood. “Prayer first” was their motto.

As next year approaches, make that your commitment also. Determine now to be on the watch for the enemy not to make inroads into your time of prayer. Determine now to stand firm and not allow him to subvert this, the greatest weapon against him we can muster.

Stand firm!

Only give Him time to hold converse with you and to work in you, and your heart shall overflow with the blessedness of God.
