Some men will spin out a long prayer telling God who and what he is, or they pray out a whole system of divinity. Some people preach, others exhort the people, till everybody wishes they would stop, and God wishes so, too, most undoubtedly.

Pray About It: Learn to edit your prayers before you speak them. By that I mean, cut out the unnecessary preaching and detailing of situations that God already knows. This is especially true in public praying. Make your prayers solidly to the point. Never use prayer as a means of preaching, exhorting, or filling the air with words. Neither God nor man are impressed.
[Almost all of the prayers recorded in the Bible] are exceedingly short ones. The prayers which brought such remarkable responses from Heaven were…brief and to the point, fervent but definite. No soul is heard because of the multitude of his words, but only when his petitions come from the heart, are prompted by a longing for God’s glory, and are presented in childlike faith.
