In the true prayer of faith the intercessor must spend time with the Father to appropriate the promises of His Word, and must permit himself to be taught by the Holy Spirit, whether the promises can be applied to this particular case.

Pray About It: Don’t assume you can choose a verse of Scripture and randomly apply it to your situation in a way that suits you. God, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, may quicken a verse for a given situation and give you the faith to stand on it in prayer, but don’t use God’s Word to try and maneuver God into doing what you want.
[Through prayer] we cannot make God do what He does not want to do, but we can hinder Him from doing what He does wish to do.
