For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”

[Samuel Brengle was one of the early leaders of the Salvation Army. In the following account of his morning prayers, he discloses an experience known by many pray-ers—the attempts of the enemy to accuse them of all sorts of evil. In so doing he aims to undermine our power in prayer.]
Once when I knelt for morning prayers I felt a sort of deadness in my soul, and just then the “accuser of the brethren” became busy reminding me of things that had long since been under the Blood.
I cried to God for help, and the blessed Comforter reminded me that my Great High Priest was pleading my case; that I must come boldly to the throne of grace. I did, and the enemy was routed!
What a blessed time of communion I had with my Lord! Had I given in to the enemy’s accusations instead of fighting I could never have received what God had for me because had I not labored fervently in prayer; I could not have reaped because I had not sown.

Pray About It: Satan hates to see us pray. He has many tactics that he will use mercilessly to thwart our time with God. The most despicable are his constant accusations against us. He may suggest to our minds, “How can you expect God to hear your prayers—after all that you’ve done!” Or he might whisper, “You don’t really believe that all your sins are forgiven, do you?”
Satan stands night and day accusing us of many things. But Jesus Christ is our advocate with the Father. By Him we stand. All is under the blood. Refuse to allow Satan’s accusations to undermine your prayer power.
Do as Brengle did—rout the enemy!
Remember that Satanic accusation may cripple the most spiritual and useful person and reduce him to naught. A weakened conscience weakens the entire person.
