Magnificent Prayer #235
You ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
James 4:15
Be slow to take new steps in the Lord’s service, or in your business, or in your families. Weigh everything well; weigh all in the light of the Holy Scriptures, and in the fear of God. Seek to have no will of your own, in order to ascertain the mind of God, regarding any steps you propose to take, so that you can honestly say, you are willing to do the will of God, if He will only please to instruct you. But when you have found out what the will of God is, seek for His help, and seek it earnestly, perseveringly, patiently, believingly, and expectingly: and you will surely, in His own time and way, obtain it.

Pray About It: Today is a day for taking inventory. What is our work? Is it God’s choice for us, or our own choosing? Has it been fruitful? Is it time to move on? Or are we indeed exactly where God wants us? Far too often we don’t move forward because we don’t take time to reflect on our lives. Then when we are old we wonder how we missed God’s call to something better. And make no mistake, if God’s calling you to move on, it’s to something better. But don’t move hastily—that’s as big a mistake as staying too long. Simply pray and ask God to reveal His will. He will make it plain.
The saint who advances on his knees never retreats.
