Magnificent Prayer #177

Magnificent Prayer #177

If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Mark 8:34

It is helpful to start each new day with a question like the following clearly before you: “Have I surrendered this new day to God, and will I seek and obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit throughout its hours?” Wait until, with the full consent of your will, you can say, “I have; I will.”

ERIC LIDDELL

Pray About It: The value of early morning prayers is that it offers the opportunity to surrender the hours ahead to God and then live confidently in the Holy Spirit throughout the day.

As you pray today, seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit and obey His lead throughout the day.

Obedience shouldn’t be hard and forced, but ready, loving and spontaneous—the daily doing of one’s duty. And not merely that we do our duty, but that in doing it we become more responsive to God.
