Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Romans 12:12
I am now, in 1864, waiting upon God for certain blessings, for which I have daily besought Him for 19 years and 6 months, without one day’s intermission. Still the full answer is not yet given concerning the conversion of certain individuals.
In the meantime, I have received many thousands of answers to prayer. I have also prayed daily, without intermission, for the conversion of other individuals about ten years, for others six or seven years, for others four, three, and two years, for others about eighteen months; and still the answer is not yet granted, concerning these persons (whom I have prayed for nineteen and a half years)…Yet I am daily continuing in prayer and expecting the answer…
Be encouraged, dear Christian reader, with fresh earnestness to give yourself to prayer, if you can only be sure that you ask for things which are for the glory of God.

Pray About It: In this reading does Mueller sound the least bit discouraged that he’s still waiting for an answer to a prayer that he’s offered daily for nearly twenty years? No, and in the other delayed answers he mentions, Mueller is still expectant. He convicts us of our unbelief when God doesn’t answer in just a few days or weeks. If we would have God’s miracle, we must be willing to wait.
George Mueller got all that he prayed for. Yes, that request he waited so long for was eventually answered. And because Mueller was a steadfast pray-er, he prevailed with God. And so can we.
It is a happy way of smoothing sorrow, when we can say, “We will wait only upon God.” Oh, ye agitated Christians, don’t dishonor your religion by always wearing a brow of care; come, cast your burden upon the Lord. I see ye staggering beneath a weight which He would not feel. What seems to you a crushing burden, would be to him but as the small dust of the balance. See! The Almighty bends his shoulders, and he says, “Here, put thy troubles here.” What! Wilt thou bear thyself what the everlasting shoulders are ready to carry?
