Never Lost To God

Never Lost to God

Reading the Word

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! 8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. 9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— 12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you (Psalm 139:7–12).

Getting Personal

Some think that they can run from God, moving beyond his sight or reach. Or at least they act that way, hiding sins, disguising true motives, praying in platitudes if at all, playing at church. It’s ridiculous, of course, because God sees and knows everything. But these men and women hope they can hide from God because he is a threat to those who are guilty and have something to hide.

For those who know God and have experienced his love, however, the fact that we cannot be lost to his knowledge is wonderful news. No matter where we are, he is there.

Perhaps you are in uncharted waters, and feel as though you have settled on “the farthest oceans.” Remember that your loving Father is with you. He is ready to hold you steady in the storm, guide you through, and bring you safely to his harbor.

Talking to God

O Father—sometimes I feel so lost and alone. Help me to remember that you are with me wherever I sail—in deep waters and storms. I trust you and your perfect guidance.
