Deep And High

Almost all of us in the United States have been blessed financially, at least when compared to the rest of the world.

But living the Christian life is not about basking in the world’s accolades, in whatever form they may come. It’s not about how many material possessions we accumulate or how important we may be considered in the world’s eyes. Instead, it is about how we maximize what God has given us on behalf of others, or as former NFL player and sports analyst James Brown put it in his book Role of a Lifetime, “recognizing the opportunities [we] have each day to add value to the lives around [us] and to make a difference in [our] world.”

We should use our money for good, storing up treasures in heaven, finding ways to share with those in need.

God isn’t keeping track of the amount of money you give; He’s more concerned about your heart and your willingness to give in the first place.

His Promises

Those who are rich in this world . . . should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.

Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.
