The Invitation To Delight - Joy in Jesus
The Invitation to Delight
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NIV)
Have you ever chased something you thought would bring joy, only to feel emptier than before? Maybe it was success, relationships, or even good things like ministry. But what if true joy isn’t found in striving but in something—or Someone—greater?
God invites us into something deeper: to delight in Him. This invitation isn’t about checking boxes on a spiritual to-do list. It’s not about how often we read our Bibles, pray, or go to church. In fact, nowhere in Scripture will you find a one-size-fits-all formula for devotions. Instead, there’s one way to the Father, and that’s through Jesus Christ. Jesus opens the way for us to approach God with freedom and joy, not obligation.
From the very beginning, God designed us for delight. In Genesis, we see humanity created from the overflow of love within the Trinity. Out of delight, God made you. And for delight, He calls you to Himself.
Everything else we pursue in life pales in comparison to the joy found in our Maker. As St. Augustine said, “Our souls are restless until they find their rest in You.” When we discover this ultimate joy, every other good gift in life reflects His glory and is a channel of worship pointing back to Him.
Reflection:
Today, pause and reflect: Where are you searching for joy? Are you ready to accept God’s invitation to delight in Him?
Closing Prayer:
Father, thank You for inviting us into Your joy. We confess that we often look for satisfaction in things that can’t truly fulfill us. Help us turn our hearts toward You and discover the delight You created us for. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
