Day 4: Workmanship Not A Fraud

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10, NLT)

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1, NLT)

Impostor syndrome often sounds like humility, but it’s usually shame wearing a spiritual mask. It says, “Any moment they’ll realize you’re not as capable as they think.” It makes you minimize growth and magnify flaws until you feel like you don’t belong—especially in rooms God placed you in.

Ephesians 2:10 says you are God’s workmanship—His craftsmanship, His intentional work. That means you are not a knockoff. You are not an accident. You are not God’s leftover idea. God prepared good works for you to walk in, and that includes the version of you that is still growing.

From a mental health lens, impostor syndrome often intensifies in seasons of expansion: new responsibilities, new callings, new visibility. The discomfort doesn’t automatically mean you’re fake. Sometimes it means you’re stretching. Growth can feel shaky, even when it’s healthy.

Now let’s bring in Romans 8:1: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Conviction can guide you. Wisdom can correct you. Accountability can mature you. But shame does not get to own you. Hear me clearly: if the voice you’re hearing is relentlessly condemning, it’s not God’s voice. God corrects with love and leads with hope.

Today, consider the difference between “I need growth” and “I am a fraud.” The first is humility. The second is self-erasure. God can work with humility. He does not partner with self-destruction.

If you keep hearing, “Who do you think you are?” answer with Scripture: “I am God’s workmanship.” If you hear, “You don’t belong,” answer with truth: “God placed me here, and He will sustain me.” We will not agree with the lie.

Prayer:

Father, silence condemnation and strengthen my confidence in Your Word. Teach me to be humble and unashamed. I receive Your truth: I am Your workmanship. In Jesus’ name, amen.
