Step Into The Sadness Of Another - In the Morning When I Rise
Step Into The Sadness Of Another
Lord, how can I help someone who is experiencing deep sadness?
Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Share each other’s burdens. When three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words.
Romans 12:15; Galatians 6:2; Job 2:11, 13
How do you help me comfort others?
I am your merciful Father and the source of all comfort. I comfort you in all your troubles so that you can comfort others. When they are troubled, you will be able to give them the same comfort I have given you.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
What can I pray for someone who is experiencing deep sadness?
You hear your people when they call to you for help. You rescue them from all their troubles. You are close to the brokenhearted; you rescue those whose spirits are crushed. LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
Psalm 34:17-18; Psalm 10:17
Can you think of someone who is currently hurting? The Bible gives guidance on how to walk alongside others by offering your prayers, presence, help, and a listening ear. Don’t allow the discomfort of seeing people sad make you try to explain or fix their pain. Simply choose to be with them and help them feel the love and presence of God through you. Who might God be calling you to reach out to or show comfort to in their sadness today? Ask him how he would like you to do this.
