Resurrection Transforms Ordinary Life - How God Restores Us: Lessons from the Resurrection
Resurrection Transforms Ordinary Life
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” (Romans 12:1, NLT)
“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” (Romans 6:4, NLT)
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1–3, NLT)
While the resurrection of Jesus marked the most dramatic day in human history, it has the power to reshape the ordinary rhythms of our lives. Most of our days are filled with small routines, making coffee, going to school or work, preparing meals, texting friends, etc. Resurrection reminds us that these ordinary moments are the very places where new life can be found.
Paul urges believers to offer their everyday, ordinary lives to God as an act of worship. Resurrection does not call us away from the ordinary but sends us back into it with renewed vision. Because Jesus has been raised, the way we live matters. Jesus rose from the dead, in part, so that in him we could walk in the newness of life.
Resurrection life changes how we see the world around us. It trains our attention toward gratitude instead of cynicism, toward wonder instead of despair. The Holy Spirit works quietly within us, shaping our instincts so that love becomes our default response. We learn to choose patience, generosity, and kindness through the power of the Holy Spirit inside us.
To live a resurrection life is to allow the Holy Spirit to reorder our desires. We can choose to work with the Holy Spirit or work apart from him. If we work with the Holy Spirit, we will find over time, love becomes less of a decision and more of an instinct.
Resurrection calls us to awaken to God’s presence not only in sacred spaces but in kitchens, neighborhoods, and workplaces. New life does not wait for extraordinary circumstances. It grows faithfully in the ordinary soil of each day.
