Living The New Resurrection Life - How God Restores Us: Lessons from the Resurrection

Living the New Resurrection Life

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.” (Colossians 3:1–4, NLT)

“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” (Romans 8:11, NLT)

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20, NLT)

Resurrection life is something we practice. Paul describes this way of life as setting our hearts and minds on things above. Heaven has come to earth through Jesus and the resurrected Son of God now gives a new shape to who we are and who we can become.

To live resurrection life is to die to false identities shaped by fear, shame, and self-protection. We learn to let go of patterns that no longer fit who we are becoming. As the old self loosens its grip, new life emerges. We form a daily habit of dying to self so we can rise with Jesus into a new life

The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now works within us, animating our choices and reshaping our desires. Resurrection life is marked by humility, patience, forgiveness, and love. These are all signs of transformation, a living witness to the work of God.

Living this new life takes practice. We learn it slowly, often imperfectly. But the direction is clear. Resurrection draws us forward into freedom.
