The hurts you grew up with jump into your mind at unexpected moments. During your formative years, you tried so hard to please the significant people in your life, but sometimes they didn’t respond in a positive way. When you longed for encouraging words, you received rejection, criticism, harsh responses, or a wall of silence. It hurt then and it hurts now. You developed a hard shell to protect yourself from future pain, but it became a prison of your own making.

Hear My voice to you saying, “I have loved you . . . with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Allow My love for you to teach you how to lavishly love others. Be open and encouraging to those around you. Do not allow any lingering emotional debris to prevent you from loving your own family well. Use what happened in your past as a foundation upon which you can build a different kind of future—one filled with caring personal relationships. Be the first person to build up another by saying out loud what he or she does well. Because you are loved by Me, you can overcome the rejection of those long-ago years and write a different future for your loved ones.
