Gossip

We should ask ourselves three questions before we speak: Is it true? Is it kind? Does it glorify Christ?

When you speak unkind, untrue, or unnecessary words about others, it displeases Me. Gossip is especially hurtful when it is wrapped in a prayer request. You have known the sting of words that wound, so you understand the pain they inflict. Gossip may be true, partially true, or completely false, but it always includes personal information that portrays someone in a bad light. Gossip unjustly colors how others are perceived, causing deep hurt to their hearts and their reputations.

Guard your mind and your mouth when you speak about others. “A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends” (Proverbs 16:28). Treat people the way you want to be treated. Beware of listening to gossip. Turn the conversation to uplifting and edifying speech. Be known as someone who keeps a confidence and speaks words of praise about others. When you develop this habit, you will be known as someone who brings people together and can always be trusted.

A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.
