The Joy of Adversity

We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Romans 8:28

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

James 1:2

What is one trial you are currently facing? How might God use this adversity as an opportunity for you to experience great joy? Is this experience making you trust him more? Is it humbling you? Is it causing you to be grateful for the good things in your life?

This is a hard exercise because it pushes against the direction your heart wants to go, the way of discouragement, sadness, and even bitterness. Pray that God will allow joy to push back so you can experience God’s promise to bring good out of difficult circumstances.
