Take Time To Think

Take Time to Think

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night.

Joshua 1:8

In our culture, the word meditation has become associated with Eastern spirituality and mysticism. However, the concept of meditation is mentioned throughout the Bible. Joshua talks about meditating on God’s law day and night (see Joshua 1:8). David prayed that his meditations would be pleasing to God (see Psalm 19:14). Meditation is mentioned several times in the Psalms (see Psalm 63:6; 145:5). The practice of meditation involves deeply pondering God’s Word and what it reveals about him.

How would your life be different if you strove daily to fill your mind with thoughts about God and his Word? This week will encourage you to think deeply about God’s Word, his actions, and his presence in your life. It may be difficult for you to stay focused. Meditation often involves directing and redirecting your thoughts toward God. Take time to read slowly through each Scripture verse. Do your best to let go of the thoughts that preoccupy your mind so that you can better focus on being in God’s presence and soaking in his Word.
