Soul Starved
Soul Starved
Times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.
Acts 3:20
Most of us race through life trying to meet one demand after another. This kind of treadmill existence will inevitably wear us down and starve our souls. It is impossible to effectively serve from a depleted soul. Eventually, we will pass out.
Caring for yourself means carving out enough time to care for your own soul. This is not self-centeredness; caring for yourself creates space in your heart for God and others. Even Jesus had to get away from the crowds in order to experience rest and refreshment (see Mark 6:31).
This week’s exercises aim to care for your heart, mind, and body—all of which make up the soul. Since God created each person uniquely, what restores your soul may be different from what someone else needs.
As you pay attention to the practices, people, and activities that most refresh you and connect you with God, you will learn to value yourself as God values you. Give yourself permission to set aside time with God this week for the sake of your soul.
