Seeing What Others Don’t

We don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

2 Corinthians 4:18

Humans suffer from shortsightedness. We focus on today’s tasks and tomorrow’s problems. But God offers a different perspective, urging us to make each day an investment in eternity. We are to think about heaven (Colossians 3:2), store up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20), and “live as citizens of heaven” (Philippians 1:27).

Developing an eternal perspective helps us view life differently by reminding us to invest in what will last forever. It gives us strength to persevere through trials because we know this life is not our final destination. The more focused we are on our eternal future with Jesus, the less attached we become to our own desires and plans and to the temporary attractions of this world.

This week, allow yourself to meditate on the beautiful future God has for you in eternity and notice how it affects your attitudes, choices, and relationships.
