Letting Go for Something Greater

Everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.

Matthew 19:29

Sacrifice is not just giving things up; rather, it is a kind of substitution. You give up one thing to obtain something of greater value. You relinquish something you think you need or that makes you feel secure and instead rely on God to provide what he knows you need.

Sometimes God will ask you to give up material possessions, attitudes, comfort, time, desires, or habits so you can better experience them in the context of his plans and presence.

Over the next several days, you will reflect on the sacrifices the Lord may be asking you to make in order to experience the better gifts he wants to give you in return.

It will be hard if you look only at the sacrifice involved. Remind yourself of the flip side of sacrifice and trust that God has something even greater in store for you as you learn to let go.
