Getting To Know The Real You
Getting to Know the Real You
Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves.
2 Corinthians 13:5
Theologian John Calvin stated that true wisdom consists of two things: knowledge of God and knowledge of self.* If we know a lot about ourselves but not about God, we become self-absorbed. If we know a lot about God but not much about ourselves, we become proud. Knowing God and knowing ourselves are both vitally important.
This week’s exercises will help you get to know yourself better. Growing in awareness of the self is called “self-examination,” which involves voluntarily testing and examining your heart. It is about inviting the Holy Spirit to reveal what is true about you so that you can better understand where you are in relation to God and others. The goal of this week is not to bring shame upon yourself but to bring authenticity to your life with God and others.
This week focuses on truth and creating a desire to change, and next week will focus on confession, which is how you respond when you acknowledge your true self.
