A Powerful Way to Pray

Revive me by your word.

Psalm 119:25

Does your prayer life feel dry? Is it overly focused on your own agenda and needs? Do you find it difficult to find the words to pray?

Praying Scripture is a powerful practice that uses the Bible as fresh language for prayer. When you don’t even know how to begin to pray, the book of Psalms is a great place to start.

This week, begin each morning by taking a few moments to be silent before the Lord and then reading the day’s psalm out loud as a prayer. As you pray the honest, heartfelt prayer of someone who lived thousands of years ago, think about how the words relate to your life.

The reflection questions after each psalm can help you continue the conversation with God. If your prayers still feel dry, short, or too simple, that’s okay!

Trust God to listen and to honor even the messiest and most imperfect prayers. Allow yourself to simply rest in God’s presence, confident that he knows and cares about everything on your heart.
