Worship In The Fire

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.

Daniel 3:17–18

“Worship the golden idol or else.” The king’s command became a crisis of belief for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Could they trust God to save them from the fiery furnace if they disobeyed? They knew the answer was yes, but they also knew his plans might differ from their hopes. What if they chose to honor him but he chose the fire for them?

The Jewish trio faced their crisis with bold faith: “Even if he does not spare us from the furnace, we will not serve any other gods.” Their courage inspires us to bold faith, too.

We know God can deliver us from our painful circumstances. But even if he does not, let’s not doubt his goodness or love. Let’s trust him even if the heat increases. He’ll be with us and will bring us through it to an outcome that will reveal his glory.
