Wait
Wait
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Psalm 130:5–6
Pause
Abram and Sarai waited more than two decades for the son God promised. Sarai was already past menopause when the promise came. Perhaps she feared she’d die before God could work his miracle. Either impatience or panic influenced her decision to give him a hand. Rushing ahead of his timing created chaos in her home and made her a bitter woman.
Waiting on God means waiting for the right time, and only he knows when that time has come. It’s learning to dance in his rhythm and follow his lead. It never goes well if we take that lead from him.
While we wait, God works in us and behind the scenes, choreographing the details. Let’s be patient. Let’s hope in his promise to help us persevere more than we hope for a particular outcome. The night watchmen fulfill their role knowing with certainty that the dawn will come. With the same certainty, we know God will come through for us.
Ponder
What lessons are you learning as you wait for God to act?
Pray
Father, help me trust your lead. I don’t want to step on your toes.
“When you find yourself sinking in the quicksand, there is little else you can do but cry to the Lord. Sometimes He allows the ‘quicksand’ experiences to turn you to Him. Wait for God. Acknowledge that He is in control. Give Him the pieces of your broken heart and watch Him work for you. You can depend on His faithfulness.”
