Mountain-maker
Mountain-Maker
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1–2
Pause
British Columbia is my home. Every time I fly north or east, I cross the Canadian Rockies. They’re stunning, especially in winter when snow covers their peaks. And when the sun rises or sets on them—oh my—words cannot describe their beauty.
When we lived in Nepal, I saw Mt. Everest from the air. At 29,029 feet, it stands more than twice the height of the tallest mountain in the Rockies. Its sight left me in awe. But here’s something that amazes me more.
The God who spoke these mountains into existence stoops to listen to our cries (Psalm 116:2). When trouble comes our way, we needn’t worry about how we’ll make our way through it. One glimpse at the towering peaks assures us that his strength is more than sufficient to fight our battles. Like the children’s song says, my God is so big, so strong, and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do—for you!
Ponder
The Mountain-Maker cherishes you. What difference does this truth make to you?
Pray
God, you spoke mountains into existence. You can surely speak hope into my heart today.
