Morning Joy

Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.

Psalm 30:5 nlt

Do you wish you could wake up after a good night’s sleep to find your situation nicely resolved? Oh, that life could be so predictable, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. The psalmist assures us that sorrow will end in the morning, but he doesn’t specify which one. In fact, perhaps his reference to morning isn’t calendar-related at all.

Consider this: perhaps “night” refers to the midnight hour of the soul. We can see neither anything good about our circumstances nor a way through them. Mystery shrouds our understanding until one day God breaks through the darkness with the light of truth and leads us to a place of discovery. We begin to see the ways in which he’s been faithful. We catch a glimpse of his working behind the scenes. We begin to understand his sovereignty over our situation and his purposes for our pain.

The dawn of a new perspective brings joy. It pushes back the darkness and allows the Son to radiate his glory to us, in us, and through us.
