Fighting Our Giants

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Goliath towered over the teenager David and scoffed, “If you think you can take me down, then think again!” His intimidation tactics didn’t work.

David stood his ground. He acknowledged the giant’s weaponry meant to destroy him, but then he revealed his battle strategy. He would fight in the name of God Almighty, and he would win.

We all face personal giants. A crisis towers over us and intimidates us. It threatens to destroy our marriage and family, our health and livelihood, our sanity, future, and hope. It sends shock waves through us. But we can stand our ground.

We don’t fight our Goliath in our own strength. We use spiritual weaponry. We’re soldiers in the army of the Lord Almighty, so we call on his name to help us. We will neither retreat nor surrender. Victory is ours regardless of what the giant says.
