Faithful God

Faithful God

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10:23 nasb

Pause

My eldest daughter was born with a heart defect and hydrocephalus—too much water on the brain. We were living in Nepal, and the medical system was inadequate for her needs. Doctors told us to return to America on the first available flight.

Because I’d had a Cesarean section delivery, the travel agent labeled me a medical high risk and refused to issue me a ticket. My husband wrapped our baby in a blanket and took her halfway around the world while I remained behind, not knowing whether I’d see her alive again.

“What are you doing, God?” I cried. “What do you want me to learn through this?” He answered by bringing the lyrics of “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” to mind. He didn’t promise the outcome I wanted, but he promised to be faithful no matter what.

Hold fast to hope, my friend. You don’t know how your story will end, but you can know with certainty that God will be faithful. Meditate on this truth, and let it bring calm to your chaos.

Ponder

Close your eyes. Inhale and thank God for being faithful. Exhale fear.

Pray

Father, I trust you because you are faithful—always have been and always will be.

“God keeps His promises. It’s a major part of His immutable nature. He doesn’t hold out hope with nice-sounding words, then renege on what He said He would do. God is neither fickle nor moody. And He never lies. As my own father used to say of people with integrity, ‘His word is His bond.’”
