Big Shoulders
Big Shoulders
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out
your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:7–8
Pause
“Enough is enough! I’m done with the enemy trying to destroy my family. Do something already!” I don’t usually talk to God like I did that day, but I was super frustrated. I felt like I’d prayed forever about the same thing without seeing answers. I was tired of watching the enemy gain ground in my loved one’s life. I vented, and truth be told, I felt better.
Religion teaches that we must practice certain postures for prayer and say spiritual-sounding words. Relationship allows us to pour out our hearts to God and tell him how we really feel. And why not? He already knows anyway.
Someone once told me that God has big shoulders. He can handle it when we cry on him. He can deal with it when we tell him the truth about how we’re really doing in the middle of our muck. We don’t have to craft fancy words or make them sound sweet. He can handle our honesty.
Ponder
What would you really like to say to God today?
Pray
Father, thank you for letting me be honest with you.
“Gut-wrenching questions honor God. Despair directed at God is a way of encountering him, opening ourselves up to the One and only Someone who can actually do something about our plight.”
