Angels Among Us

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

Unseen spiritual forces move among us. They’re angels on assignment sent to care for God’s children (Hebrews 1:14). But they’re not golden-haired cherubs with rosy cheeks and Tinker Bell wings. Bible accounts say some struck terror into the hearts of those they appeared to. Others came disguised as ordinary people.

On the night of his arrest, Jesus prayed for release from his suffering. Then he surrendered his will to the Father knowing what lay ahead. His agony went unnoticed by his disciples, who’d fallen asleep a few feet away, but God saw. He sent a supernatural being to give Jesus supernatural strength to endure the suffering ahead.

Perhaps you’ve entertained angels unaware. A stranger buys your coffee, speaks the encouragement you need at that moment, or appears from nowhere and lends practical help. God hasn’t left you to fend for yourself. Angels are among us, and some are assigned to you.
