Listen closely, Israel, and be careful to obey. Then all will go well with you.

Why do you go to church, read the Bible, or attend Christian conferences? Most likely it is to hear what the Father is saying to you.

And if the Lord were to send you a personalized letter, address it, Dear (your name), and sign it YHWH God, would you put it aside and read it after the evening news was over? Of course not. You would open the letter reverently, read it carefully, and probably reread it often.

Unfortunately there are many believers who never really give a second thought to what the Lord is saying. They are passive listeners—not involved in the hearing process and unchanged within. Sadly, they miss the joy and power of the Christian life.

Thankfully, that does not have to be you. You have a personal letter from God through the words of the Bible, and it will transform you as you apply it to your life. So today, don’t miss out. Open the Word and listen to the Father with passion.

Father, I want to know You! Teach me to be an active listener and increase my love for Your Word, amen.
