How does surrender to God actually bring true victory?

A Moment with God

I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

Isaiah 6:8

Calling the crowd to join his disciples, [Jesus] said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.”

Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.

Philippians 3:8

Many great battles in history ended with a surrender. One side realized that it was powerless against the other and to save themselves, admitted defeat and raised the white flag. In the spiritual realm, you fight two great battles, and surrender plays a part in both. On the one hand, you fight against sin and its control in your life. If you are not allied with God, you will surrender to sin and its deadly consequences. On the other hand, you can foolishly fight against God and his will for you because you want to have control over your life. This is a time when surrender is necessary and positive. Surrender to God comes when you finally realize that you are powerless to defeat sin by yourself and you give control of your life to God. When you are in alliance with God and the Holy Spirit lives in you, you are able to be victorious in your battle to defeat sin and experience the greatest freedom possible. When you surrender to God, you give up what you think is best for your life and do what he knows is best. You put aside your self-fulfilling ambitions so that you can do the job God has for you. You ask God to live in you and through you through the power of the Holy Spirit. You give up your attempt to control your life to God, who created you, loves you, knows you, and has a plan for you. Then you begin to experience real freedom.

Divine Promise

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
