Quietness
Quietness
My Question for God
Why are times of quietness important?
A Moment with God
Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.
Psalm 46:10
Finding times to be quiet and meditate will help you recognize the voice of God when he speaks.
Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat. So they left by boat for a quiet place.
Mark 6:31-32
Jesus saw the importance of spending time with people, and likewise, the importance of rest and quiet reflection. Life should have a balance of work and rest, investment in people and quiet time for restoration.
It is crucial to renew your fellowship with God and be restored by spending time with him. When you connect with God, you tap into his strength. Maybe you find it difficult to rest. You mistakenly believe that productivity requires constant activity. But sometimes you need to slow down in order to speed up; stop awhile to let your body, mind, and spirit recover and reset your purpose so that you can be more energized and productive when you are ready to get back to the work at hand.
“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told [Elijah]. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:11-13
Sometimes you must be still, quiet, and prepared in order to hear God speak. Sometimes you need to spend time with God without noise and distractions. Just meditate and listen for him to speak to your heart and mind.
When you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
Matthew 6:6
When you need a quiet time of prayer, find a quiet place to escape from the busy world and allow God to speak to you.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Proverbs 4:23
The best time to prepare for temptation is before it presses in on you. Train yourself in the quieter times so that you will have the spiritual wisdom, strength, and commitment to honor God in the face of intense temptation.
Divine Challenge
This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.”
Isaiah 30:15
