How does knowing God help me believe his promises?

O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful.

Psalm 89:8

I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.

Psalm 138:2

The trustworthiness of a promise depends on the answer to two questions: First, is the one making the promise truthful and dependable? Second, does the one making the promise have the ability to carry out what he or he has promised? Both character and power are crucial, and God possesses them in perfect degree. If you can’t believe a promise from God, you can’t believe a promise from anyone, because God alone is completely trustworthy. You can be sure that God’s promises will come true, even when circumstances might lead you to doubt. You can give your heart when God gives his word.
