My Question for God

How does my marriage commitment reflect my commitment to God?

A Moment with God

As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.

Ephesians 5:31-32

Marriage is frequently used as an illustration for the holy relationship between God and his people. Both relationships are formed on the basis of a covenant—a holy promise—to be faithful to one another exclusively. God insists on being the one divine love in your life—the one God whom you commit to loving, serving, and obeying as long as you live. The marriage union is symbolic of that commitment. As you commit to loving and serving your mate, you learn to better love and serve God. As you remain faithful to your mate, you understand more of what it means to be faithful to God. This faithfulness allows you to share an intimacy and a common purpose that is not possible in a casual relationship where there is little commitment.
