Hurts
My Question for God
How can I find healing from the hurts in my relationships—both hurts from others and hurts I’ve caused?
A Moment with God
Don’t say, “I will get even for this wrong.” Wait for the LORD to handle the matter.
Proverbs 20:22
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Colossians 3:13
All of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it.
1 Peter 3:8-9
As you wrestle with your hurts, it is helpful to keep two things in mind: First, God’s model of unconditional love shows you the importance of avoiding intentionally hurting others. This happens most often with your words, either when you use them to get what you want or when you retaliate when others hurt you first. Second, you must practice the art of forgiveness. Whether you need to apologize for hurting someone or to forgive someone who has hurt you, true forgiveness is the best antidote for melting away the hard feelings and experiencing the joy of restoration. Remember that God, the one you’ve hurt the most, has already offered you his complete forgiveness and desires to fully restore your relationship with him. When you are hurt by a friend, loved one, or even a stranger, it is a reminder that you long for a more perfect relationship with the One who will never hurt or disappoint you.
Divine Promise
