How does the Holy Spirit—the presence of God—help me?

A Moment with God

We have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.

1 Corinthians 2:12

The Holy Spirit is God’s presence in you, helping you to understand the deep truths of God and to discover and know the mysteries and wonders of his character.

Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires.

Galatians 5:16-17

The Holy Spirit helps you know the truth about sin and convicts you of it. It is God in you showing you right from wrong, good from bad, and his way versus the way of the world. It’s amazing that God cares enough to give you one-on-one instruction on how to live a life that pleases him.

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

Romans 8:26-27

The Holy Spirit helps you pray. You can take great comfort and confidence in the fact that God hears, understands, and responds to your prayers. When your soul longs to be recognized and understood and yet you can’t find the right words, the Holy Spirit understands your deepest longings and expresses them to God on your behalf.

Divine Promise

The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
