My Question for God

If I’m obeying God, why am I facing a crisis?

A Moment with God

One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out. As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”

Luke 8:22-25

When Jesus heard [the young man’s] answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But when the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very rich. When Jesus saw this, he said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

Luke 18:22-25

The disciples were devoted followers of Jesus. They might have thought that being involved in God’s work excluded them from the trials of life and seemed surprised when a dangerous storm threatened their lives. Yet they still knew where to turn for help. Doing the will of God does not exclude you from this world’s trials. Even the most spiritually hardy face crises that shake them to the core. When you experience these, call out to Jesus for care and protection. Although the raging storm didn’t awaken Jesus, the disciples’ cries of need aroused him immediately. Like a mother or father who can hear their child’s cry over the din of a crowd, Jesus hears you. Jesus was weary at times during his earthly life, but he is tireless as he cares for you now. When you call out to God, it is God’s presence with you that breaks through your fears and calms your heart, even when the storms of life continue to rage around you.
