What is the beauty of conformity to God’s ways?

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

1 Corinthians 8:9

A potter shapes a plain lump of clay into his design, conforming it to his idea of how it should look and function. Society does the same thing to people. It has a way of molding us to its way of looking, thinking, and behaving. Unfortunately, culture rarely values what God does, especially in the area of morality, so conformity to God’s ways is usually countercultural. Many people say, “I’m going to do what I want. I don’t care what people say.” But if you believe in God, your task is to conform to God’s way of thinking and acting, even when it goes against what’s popular. You have a special responsibility to act as a representative of God. If your actions are not consistent with your faith, then you could cause others to question the life-changing power of God. But your conformity to God’s ways reveals your freedom from the influence of the culture. Your behavior should cause others to ask about your faith as they see you living out God’s ways.
