Complacency

Complacency

My Question for God

How can I combat complacent inaction?

A Moment with God

In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies. Don’t kill them, for my people soon forget such lessons; stagger them with your power, and bring them to their knees, O Lord our shield.

Psalm 59:10-11

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.

1 Corinthians 10:12

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

1 Peter 5:8-9

In Psalm 59, David prays that God will not destroy Israel’s enemies. It sounds like a strange request. Why? Because David knows that absence of enemies will lead the Israelites to become spiritually complacent. It was the threat of attack that kept them dependent on God.

Feeling invulnerable is spiritually unhealthy for you, too. Problems and trials keep you spiritually sharp and fully dependent on God. During good times, be alert to the constant threat of temptation, and remember that health, relationships, financial stability, and all other earthly blessings can vanish in an instant. The fragility of life prompts faith, and faith in God is your only true security.

Divine Promise

Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
